If you're looking for a quick, nutritious breakfast for babies and toddlers, these Kiwi Pancakes are such a fun one to try. Soft, fluffy and naturally sweet, they’re perfect for baby-led weaning from 6 months+ and ideal for little hands learning to self-feed.

Kiwis are packed with vitamin C, fibre and antioxidants, making these pancakes a great way to introduce new flavours while supporting your baby’s immune system and digestion. The mashed kiwi adds natural sweetness and moisture, so there’s no need for any added sugar.

Best of all, this recipe comes together in just 5 minutes of prep using simple ingredients you probably already have in the kitchen. They cook up beautifully soft and fluffy, making them perfect for BLW breakfasts, toddler snacks, lunchboxes or quick family breakfasts on busy mornings.

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe kiwis, peeled and mashed
  • 1 medium egg
  • 1/2 cup (125ml) of full-fat milk
  • 1 cup (120g) of self-raising flour
  • A knob of unsalted butter

Instructions

Mash the kiwi in a shallow bowl, then whisk through the egg, milk and flour

Heat the butter in a large frying pan over a medium heat

Add 2 tablespoons of batter to the pan to form each pancake; you should be able to fit 2-3 pancakes in the frying pan at any one time

Fry each pancake for 1-2 minutes until bubbles form, and then flip and cook the underside for a further minute

Place the pancakes onto a plate covered in foil to keep them warm until all of the pancakes are prepared

Serve with a side of fruit and some creamy yoghurt.

Notes

Freezing and re-heating advice:
Let the food cool fully, then place on a baking tray flat in the freezer for up to an hour. Then you can put them into an airtight container or freezer bags, this will stop them sticking together. They will keep in the freezer for up to 3 months. Remove as many from the freezer as you need and defrost fully at room temp or overnight in the fridge. Place the food back into a frying pan on a low heat, or on a baking tray in the oven at a low temp. Heat until piping hot throughout.

How To Serve for 6-7 months: Slice into finger width pieces and offer one slice at a time
How To Serve for 8-9 months+: Cut into smaller bite sized pieces for older babies to help develop or master pincer grip.
